MentorVet provides evidence-based solutions to promote veterinary well-being. Recognizing the high levels of stress and low levels of well-being among young veterinarians, Founder Addie Reinhard, DVM, MS, created the MentorVet Program, a 5-month evidence-based mentorship and professional development program for recent veterinary graduates, to provide a centralized platform for resources and support to promote well-being. The program provides online professional skills training to help veterinarians better navigate some of the most common stressors of practice. Holistic support is provided through peer mentorship, mental health coaching, financial coaching, a private social media group, and paired mentorship with a veterinarian trained in suicide prevention and emotional support.
Pilot data demonstrated that MentorVet may protect against burnout in new veterinary graduates. Partnering with their founding sponsor, Merck Animal Health, MentorVet is rapidly scaling with 75 veterinarians participating in the 2021 cohort and 150 veterinarians participating in the spring 2022 cohort.
